Delta

Today's track.

Yesterday I totally wimped out and didn't ride, so no excuses today. Once I got going, I really enjoyed being out there . It helped that the sun came out, but it was also nice to go somewhere new. Today I explored the more urban part of Delta, which I had never seen before.

I took a break for lunch at Westview Park and got to watch a couple of innings of baseball. Bonus!

A ride into the temperate rain forest and up Cypress Bowl Road today, to the highest elevation I've reached so far: about 900 m. There was still quite a bit of snow on the side of the road, but the stuff coming from the sky was pure rain, even at the top.

And this, for those who aren't too easily grossed out, is what it's like to take one's socks off after riding in the rain for four hours. Maybe I need some better booties.

The Wall

Something different today: hills! Just 28k today, but with three climbs up Tolmie St near Locarno Beach, probably the steepest little hill I've ever seen.

It's fun once in a while to give 'er on a hill like this, panting and drooling like an animal.

Whistler part II

Although yesterday's ride home was a net downhill, some nasty head and cross winds compensated for that. My average speed was actually 1 km/h less than the previous day (25).

Some of the descending was a bit sketchy, especially with crosswinds. This is the one situation where I miss my old heavier, stiffer aluminum bike. Great views though. Here's a video from one of the viewpoints:

You can tell from the commentary what state my mind is in while riding. "Mountains good..."

At a previous viewpoint I met a nice older couple from Pennsylvania. I think the woman asked me if there were many igloos in the area. Maybe I misheard her but I'm pretty sure that's what she said. I told her they'd have to go farther north to see igloos, although I'm not sure even the Inuit use them anymore. It must have been disappointing for them to come all this way and not see any igloos.
